Bantry Bay is an affluent suburb of Cape Town situated on the slopes of Lion's Head and overlooking a rocky coastline of the Western Cape Province. Its neighboring suburbs are Sea Point and Clifton. It was originally called Botany Bay after a botanical garden that was planted here for the cultivation of medicinal herbs. The name was changed during World War I. It is overlooked by Lion's Head, which is an eroded outlier of sandstone. Bantry Bay is known to be the most wind-free area in Cape Town. Secluded & protected, the inhabitants of this exclusive area enjoy about 290 wind free days per year - a significant fact given Cape Town's windy climate.
Camps Bay is an affluent suburb of Cape Town. In summer it attracts a large number of foreign visitors as well as South Africans. In 1913 Camps Bay was incorporated into Cape Town although it was still seen as a recreational area rather than a residential area. Camps Bay Beach, a Blue Flag Beach since 2008 is the largest white sand beach in Camps Bay. The beach is opposite Camps Bay's main tourist hub, featuring multiple hotels, restaurants, and shops.
Clifton is an affluent suburb of Cape Town. It is an exclusive residential area and is home to the most expensive real estate in South Africa, with dwellings nestled on cliffs that have sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Clifton was rated as one of the Top Ten Beaches and has received Blue Flag status. Clifton is neighbored by the suburbs of Camps Bay and Bantry Bay. The area has a set of 4 beaches which are frequently used destinations for both locals and tourists. The beaches, which are named from 1st to 4th, are separated by falls of granite boulders and have almost pure white granitic sand. The four beaches of Clifton are one of the few areas well protected from the notorious south-easterly wind, which has a great deal to do with its popularity with bathers.
Green Point is an affluent suburb of Cape Town, South Africa located to the north west of the central business district. It is a popular residential area for young professionals. Many new mid-rise apartment and mixed-use developments have gone up in recent years. Somerset Road forms the main thoroughfare lined by numerous restaurants, cafés, boutiques and nightclubs. The Cape Town Stadium was constructed on Green Point Common for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Numerous infrastructural developments were made, with the upgrade to Helen Suzman Boulevard and the new Granger Bay Boulevard being constructed, along with a massive investment in creating an urban park around the stadium.
Fresnaye is one of Cape Town's most affluent suburbs, situated between Signal Hill and Sea Point, a few kilometres to the west of Cape Town's Central Business District (CBD). Fresnaye is set on the slopes of Lion’s Head on the East and between Sea Point and Bantry Bay to the suburb's North West and South West respectively.
Sea Point is one of Cape Town's most affluent and densely populated suburbs, situated between Signal Hill and the Atlantic Ocean, a few kilometres from Cape Town's Central Business District (CBD). Moving from Sea Point to the CBD, one passes through first the small suburb of Three Anchor Bay, then Green Point. Seaward from Green Point is the area known as Mouille Point, where the local lighthouse is situated. It is neighbored to the southwest by the suburb of Bantry Bay. Sea Point is the only sea-side suburb of Cape Town with significant high-rise development and this, along with other factors, has made it a very popular residential area, or for investing in first or second homes and apartments.
The Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront is situated in South Africa’s oldest working harbour, the 123 hectares (300 acres) area in Cape Town has been developed for mixed-use, with both residential and commercial real estate. The complex houses over 450 retail outlets, including fashion, homeware and curios, to jewellery, leather goods and audio-visual equipment. The V&A Waterfront is also still a working harbour and fishing boats bring in fresh fish, and larger container ships are towed in by tugboats.
