The reserve is located in a malaria-free region and that’s a large part of its attraction. Guests stay at Bakubung Bush Lodge which is one of the largest lodges in the Pilanesberg and only a short 15-minute drive from the famous Sun City Resort.
Enjoy daily game drives in a unique environment. Pilanesberg lies on the floor of an ancient volcanic crater, in a transitional zone between the dry, arid Kalahari Desert and lush Lowveld region. It’s a Big 5 game reserve and renowned for its high concentration of game and prolific birdlife.

Bakubung Bush Lodge is a family-friendly safari destination located in the south-east corner of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve; and a short 15-minute drive from Sun City Resort. The lodge overlooks a sweeping lawn that leads down to a large waterhole that usually has a resident pod of hippos in it.
There’s so much to do at Bakubung Bush Lodge between the early morning and afternoon game drives to keep the whole family busy. Lodge facilities include a large swimming pool, flood-lit tennis courts, kids’ playground, volleyball courts, internet lounge, gym and spa centre, a large restaurant and poolside bar. A highlight is the African-themed spit braais (barbeques) and bush braais that happen on certain nights of the week at the outdoor boma.
Accommodation ranges from standard/deluxe rooms to family rooms and exclusive private suites. Each ensuite luxury room is elegantly decorated and fully equipped for comfort and convenience. The spacious rooms open up onto a private balcony with a panoramic view of the reserve.

Have a light lunch and relax before it’s time to depart for a late-afternoon game drive in the reserve. Game drives are in an open safari vehicle with a professional ranger. Return to the lodge as the sun is setting and enjoy a starlit dinner around the firepit on warm evenings.

DAY 2: PILANESBERG GAME RESERVE
Set off early after hot beverages for a 3-hour sunrise game drive in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in an open safari vehicle with a professional ranger. Return to the lodge for breakfast and keep yourself busy with everything there is to do at Bakubung. For an additional cost, you can join a guided bush walk or a game tracking activity, or visit the reserve’s wildlife centre or Predator’s World. Depart late afternoon for the game drive. Dinner around the boma on warm evenings.

Depart mid-afternoon between 15:00 – 15:15 for the return journey to Johannesburg.
